UPDATE: According to the New York Times, the women have been identified as 28-year-old Noelle Velentzas and 31-year-old Asia Siddiqui, two roommates from Queens.
The criminal complaint, filed in Brooklyn's Federal District Court, briefly explains how they got involved in the terror plot:
Ms. Siddiqui is currently in possession of multiple propane gas tanks, as well as instructions for how to transform propane tanks into explosive devices, the complaint reads.The women appeared to be interested in jihad and had been communicating with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula personnel. They also watched videos of ISIS beheadings, according to the complaint.
Two women have been taken into custody by federal authorities after reportedly being influenced by ISIS to set off a bomb near New York City.
ABC New York reports that the women, said to be in their 20s and 30s, were arrested this morning in New York. Their arrests were the result of an undercover investigation by the FBI, who says the public never faced any actual danger. The women planned to construct an explosive, but it remains unclear how far into the process they were.
According to ABC New York, the investigation began after authorities started monitoring their online activity, which indicated a sharp turn towards violent behavior due to the militant group's sway.
